2025 Ceramic Collection
I signed up for Aubrey Sloan’s Exploring Professional Pottery class through Morning Ceramics, and it was nothing short of fantastic.
First is Aubrey herself - a cheerful and supportive teacher who’s also a really talented potter. Her ability to ask questions, get us thinking more deeply about our work and our goals, and to help us synthesize piles of information over the 12-week course was invaluable.
And the course itself was SO GOOD. The EPP course is all about the business side of making art - understanding your production cadence, learning how to plan a production schedule, creating and editing a cohesive body of work, pricing, packing, shipping, inventory, studio organization, turning your ideas into actual clay pieces. ALL. THE. THINGS.
We also had lovely guest artists come in every week to share their experiences with us. Pop-ups, starting a storefront, tips and tricks, how they found their creative voice, how they prep for a show, what they love and hate.
For my class project, I created my first full collection of ceramic work: tapestries and jewelry, made with unique abstract shapes that I drew and had 3d-printed into cutters. I want to continue exploring these shapes and the connection between what is jewelry and what is tapestry, using elements from jewelry-making to create more elaborate tapestries and then also creating necklaces that look like wearable tapestries. (You’ll be able to find these at my upcoming exhibit First Look at Gallery 114 in February!)
