Botanical Inks
Last month I took a botanical inks workshop at Wildcraft Studios, led by Carolyn Sweeney of Strata Ink. I’ve taken other classes from Carolyn before so I was really looking forward to this one!
She showed us the process of creating botanical ink through steeping materials like flower petals, berries, and bark; straining the liquid; and using modifiers to enhance or change the colors. I really enjoyed getting to play with the inks and adding this technique to my painting - it’s a really accessible way to own more of my painting process, and I’ve already got bags of flowers and leaves in my freezer for future ink-making 😄
