little galaxies
Of all the mediums that I work in, painting is the most relaxing.
The slow pouring of water; gently encouraging the pigments to swirl across the paper; the forced patience of waiting for the painting to dry before I can see what I’ve made. It’s unhurried, and everything is an experiment with no expectations.
While I was in Sunriver recently, I spent a lot of time painting in between hiking and hot tubbing. I made a series that a friend dubbed “Little Galaxies” - shimmering abstract watercolors that look like swirling galaxies.
I also experimented with different compositions. Usually I tape off a full border and fill the frame, but I wanted to play with spacing and color, and I love how they turned out!
